3 Tips for Clients: How to make the most of online sound healing sessions

The online landscape has been changing for a few years and our ways and opportunities of how to experience the world. This year in particular has seen a huge shift.
I’m sure most of you reading this will have adapted your life to moving online at some point, either with work, catching up with friends and family or practising with your favourite instructor’s classes. And it’s awesome the places you can travel to from the comfort of your own home. It is now easier than ever before to attend a Qigong class in China, a Yoga session in India, a cooking class in Bali or even a sound healing session in the UK…wink wink.
Doing anything online is convenient practically. You can tune in from anywhere in the world on your own schedule and at the same time you can have something baking in the oven, you don’t need to find someone to look after your kids, pets or plants. And you can wear whatever you want. Where do I sign?
Sound healing wise, the dream of attending a session in your PJ’s from your bed or sofa can become a very awesome reality. Granted, the sound is never going to sound or feel the same as it does in person. However, from my perspective, the healing is still being given with pure loving intention, received by you. Transformative experiences are very much a part of the online world as they are in person.
When practising from home, my clients end up learning more about themselves and therefore take agency over their practice, which, as a teacher, is what I hope for all my clients when they attend my session in person or online.
Here are my 3 top tips for how you can make the most out of receiving a sound healing session online:
1. Be comfortable.
Body – Position yourself sitting or lying down, whatever works for you. Support your body. You can use pillows or blankets under your knees, lower back, arms, head and neck. You could even weight your body down by placing more than one blanket over your body to help cultivate a grounding sensation. Adjust your body as needed. Close your eyes or cover them with an eye mask or scarf. You don’t need to watch the screen.
Mind – Open your mind, accept that the sound will be different from in-person sessions. When your mind acknowledges this, you will unconsciously give yourself permission to relax deeper into your session to receive the sound exactly how it’s being offered.
Environment – Dim the lights, have a salt lamp on or light a candle. Set your environment up as you’d like to receive the benefits of the meditation.
2. Turn the world off for an hour.
Divert distractions away from you for the duration of the session. Turn off notifications, reminders and alerts on the device you’re using to join the session, and the ones you’re not using too. Remove your smart watches. Dial into the session with your device connected to a good WiFi instead of mobile data for a smoother connection. If a friend, family member or pet can’t be without you for an hour, invite them to join the session and community.
3. Wear headphones.
This can be a game-changer to your experience of receiving sound through the WiFi waves. It can be any type of headphones. However, if you want to invest in a good pair that you can use for everything including online sound healing sessions, noise-cancelling headphones are proving to be a winner with my clients. Sounds expensive right? Well, with some brands you could spend in excess of £500 for a (very good) pair of headphones. But you could also spend £50-£100 for a good quality pair too. Here are some brands I found that have good reviews and won’t break the bank:
During meditation, time and space become an illusion. You can travel to any timeline in multiples realms of existence in this life or another. The same is true for when your host is holding space for you during your sessions. My wish for you in our sessions is to provide the same feeling as meeting in person so that the in the moment wisdom is just as present online as it would be in real life.
If you are yet to try an online sound healing session, give it a go, either with me or someone else. You’ve got nothing to lose and everything to gain.
