Tingshas 3

Tingshas are an instrument, composed of two handmade bell cymbals, that have been used in the Himalayan regions for centuries for meditation, religious ceremonies, healing the auric field and environment cleansing.

They are sounded by tapping each small cymbal together at the edge for a crystal-pure bell tone. The tingsha tone awakens awareness and stimulates the healing process, which is why we also use them in sound healing with Tibetan singing bowls.

You can use the pure tingsha tone to clear energy in your environment and yourself.

It is also a beautiful way to establish the start and finish of every session, to integrate the tones and energy of healing given and received.

The symbols carved onto the top of the tingshas vary. The ones I stock from Nepal are any of the following:

  1. Buddhist mandala symbols.
  2. Buddhist mantra – Om mani padme hum ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པ་དྨེ་ཧཱུྃ. This means: on the practice of a path which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech and mind into the pure exalted body, speech and mind of a Buddha.
  3. Dragons for protection, good luck and prosperity.

And underneath:

Buddhist mantra – Om ah hum (or hung) ༀ་ཨཱཿ་ཧཱུྃ. This is a mantra from the Tibetan tradition, to help us clarify, or purify, our body, speech and mind.
